Feeling conspicuous

I went to Sunny Rest today and did several activities, including participating in a trivial contest.
All 7 contestants and most of the people in the audience were nude.
Near the end of the contest, I started to feel conspicuous being nude in front of a large group of people.
Has anyone else experienced this type of thing?

RE:Feeling conspicuous

Its quite a common feeling for people experiencing social (beach/resort) nudism for the first time. It fades quickly.

Its unusual for seasoned nudists, if fact Ive never heard nudist mention it outwith telling of their first time.

Its strange that you experienced it, given the fact that you wear a micro thong in public without any feelings of being conspicuous.

was it the nudism for sure. what I mean is I have no issue being nude in front of any amount of people I also love talking but I noted with myself recently that once the number in the group gets more than say 8 people I get more introvert (I also get the same clothed) I think this is more down that sometimes a bigger group the conversation gets harder to hear or keep on top off.
Fact for me is although I have slept naked most my life I tend not to walk around the house nude then I do feel a little silly, I'm def more a social nudist

The only place I wear a micro thong in public is between the parking lot and closing optional beach.

I have no issue with being nude in a group of any size. I was continuously nude for 7 hours at the resort yesterday, including a charity race with about 200 participants. Being in front of a crowd looking my way just felt different.

RE:Feeling conspicuous

I am mainly an introvert, to the point that one time before a big presentation to an Air Force Colonel and his staff I woke up the night before from the cliche nightmare that I was halfway through the presentation and realized I was naked. Fast forward to the 2017 Bare Necessities nude cruise and I entered the mixology contest on our second sea day. This was 5 years and 3 nude cruises into my naturist journey. Of the 4 contestants I was the only one nude in front of a pool deck crowd of at least 100. I had a great time and it cured me of my fear of being in front of others. Having actually been nude on stage, that nightmare is now powerless against me. Tomorrow I am presenting to a Major General and his staff, so we will see if that nightmare tries to resurface.

Nightmares come and nightmares go.

There are real fears people have.

However, the nightmare example proves well. It shows how people evolve and get better. Thank you for sharing.

The following is an opinion which I have about all of these things, which may or may not be considered by others to be helpful.

The real tricky thing I noticed, whenever in the nudist resorts or beaches (Haulover Beach Miami Florida) ("Indian Hills naturist resort, Louisiana") (Cap Antibe, France) is the mere fact that some of us who begin being naturists will all say:

"I do know that most people do not want to be stared, but it is slightly harder to look only at ones' face when the body is fully displayed!"

Some of us are familiar with the earlier times when we made the silly excuses, when starting out as resort nudists, to be daredevils, to not think of the other person because of our ambitions.

We all need to think of the other people at the resorts of all places for nudists, at all times!

Here is the best way to quit the habits of staring:

Deliberately, intently, think of the other person.

This works, and this helps. Think "What would they do if they knew I was staring, and do I really want that?" And if the answer is no, Look the other way if you think the look can get you in trouble.

Here is the key: Do not over think it, think intently, in the correct manner, to AVOID TROUBLE. Simple as that. But, also, not quite as simple as ONLY those actions: Rather, AVOID TROUBLE, DO NOT BE UNFRIENDLY, BUT READ THE ROOM, AND FEEL THE MOOD, and stay away from bad moods, BUT ALSO Find The Good Moods.

It all is intuitive, regarding the parts about non-verbal communication person-to-person. It hurts anyone struggling to move into naturism if their "social skills" and "Room Reading" and "People Knowledge and People Reading" and "Social Learning" and their "Empathy and Care" skills all are not constantly worked on.

However, it all is like any other social skill. Learning to be a social naturist is among the more tricky of the mastery of social skills.

The main issue is, "Am I willing to suppress my staring and sexual apetite, even if it is hard, and read and understand verbal and silent mental social skills, psychologically, physically, and sub-consciously and consciously," in order to have friends who I interact either in a NON-SEXUAL GENUINE Friendly Diplomatic Negotiation of Friendship or Peacetime Acquaintance, in Diplomacy if not in Direct Friendship, OR IN A NON-SEXUAL FRIENDSHIP; or, if in a mutually-attracted person, on a CONSENTING relationship with intimacy.

It all depends on who you choose as friends and neighbors.

Ideally, we would read the room, and choose wisely.

This is what we all have to do.

Another thing we have to do, is, if we respect someone, we give respect, and we show our traits that work to make others respect us ourselves as other people. But we all know the world has many challenges.

The key, however, is to overcome the challenges, no matter what.

And if some are hard to overcome, to read the room and walk away.

And if we need help, we need to get it in a timely manner to ourselves and others, and take care of ourselves and others if we are able to do so or get proper help for ourselves or others.

But be careful not to waste energy.

Anyone asking for money has wasted their time and your time.

And anyone that does not avoid asking lesser friends or first-time meeting parasocial acquaintances for money, they are doing a disservice to anyone that they ask to give money or ask to send to them some money.

Nudists, as anyone else, should try to be careful.

It is all about hiding only when neccessary, and being confident and respectful and reading the room at the perfect level.

Social nudism is very mentally and socially hard for most people, that is why most never try it even in places where it is perfectly legal as a free exercise of freedom of assembly and freedom of expression and freedom of association, even in democracies currently or formerly most favorable to nudism and naturism as a freedom within the concepts of free expression and free association with other naked people who call themselves naturists.

Different conditions make different kinds of naturists, though a few types of naturist prevail, like Home Living Naturists, Christian Naturists, Atheist Naturists, Agnostic Naturists, Hindu Naturists, Jewish Naturists, European Pagan Naturists, Old Asian Indigenous Asian Religious Naturists, Americas Indigenous Native Original Peoples' Naturists, African Indigneous Traditional Spirituality Naturists, European Naturists, Recreation Naturists, East Asian Naturists, West Asian Naturists, South Asian Naturists, Tribal Indigneous Spirituality Asian Naturists, Japanese Naturists, Philosophical Naturists, Sports/Sporting Naturists in amateur Naturists' recreational sports leagues in some nations on planet Earth, University Naturists, Masonic Naturists in Freemasonry in Europe and English-Speaking Freemasonry Secret Societies, Boating Naturists, Island Naturists, Beaching Naturists, and other ways of living as Naturists.

The key is to not literally and figuratively step over people's toes, and to figuratively and literally do the opposite of that.

Be Kind To People, Ruthless To Government Systems.

Avoid formality and beauracracy and join the independents and free-spirits among the naturists. Find the groups that fit your everything. And make good friendships.

And remember people well, especially if you live far away from the nudist places. It helps to remember others, and Treat Others How They Want To Be Treated, which is the least any of us deserve from all of us, but few times we all get.

The best thing to do is to be careful, but be nice and kind and helpful in soft diplomacy to other people. Practice soft diplomacy, and master your craft of your own self image.

If it seems a little hard, wait to get emotionally stable for the first visit if you never have visited a nudist beach or naturists site before.

Do the Correct and Good Things To Do.

And stay safe.

Do not go if you feel unsafe, and go only when you look at the area first and see if you feel safe afterward. Avoid the places you feel uncomfortable, but look for the nice spots where naturists congregate, read reviews, and go only after you see for yourself from the outside first and then again a second time from the inside to see if that is somewhere you want to build community.

I chose Indian Hills Naturist Resort/Naturist Park, near New Orleans, because I decided to build better goodwill with people near the area who know similar places near my own local city who know how to be naturists, who are nearby or local, who try to build good diplomacy with other naturists as a community.

I do not go to the Indian Hills Naturist Resort very very often, but I feel I should try to be diplomatic, to help them by supporting them and help them continue to build the community in my area and the next state over, for naturism, from the bottom up, not from the top down.

Indian Hills as a resort is affiliated to the The Naturist Society, United States, but is loosely a member that has its own policies and its own community, with residents on site. They support the economy in the metropolitan areas around New Orleans, and build better naturism in the Louisana and Mississippi Coast areas of the states of Louisiana and Mississippi. My motto is Think Globally, Act Locally. So that is why I have chosen to usually visit Louisiana to occaisionally visit to go to the naturist resort with the pool in Louisiana, to build better rapport with the local nudists, and to have good experiences with interpersonal diplomacy, and to practice moderating social interaction and trying to read the room as a social person.

I avoid excessively long conversations.

I always shower before entering the pool as all pool naturists at the resorts always do.

I always never stare at people as individuals or as a group.

I always avoid the acts of crowding communal spaces and keep distances healthy, especially among all diverse kinds of people.

I always avoid otherizing people.

I always avoid derogatory conversations.

I do my best to avoid discrimination of any kind or any kind of prejudice.

I always avoid saying too much or too little, and speak only the right amount, when someone speaks to me in conversation. As another individual in any conversation with others, I avoid excessively speaking.

And the best thing is to ask questions if I do not know, but to deliberately try to avoid offense or asking offensive questions. Never ask about work since most people do not revel in how good their work is to them. Most people think work is less-than-fulfilling or heavy, so avoid talking about work in lines of questioning because work is not always regarded positively by everyone, even those who might enjoy a lot of their working jobs' or jobs' lifestyles in employment or workplace environment. Most people loathe talking about work as a matter of fact, so do not risk talking about it immediately when first meeting someone.

Intentions can always help ourselves to be careful to remember be respectful, regardless of what topics to which you speak concerning such topics in conversation!

But the most important thing is this : Do not go if nervous. Practice knowing appropriate manners of the nudist environment, and reading people's intentions and social skills, that is what helps us all. Those are the most important things to properly navigating social nudism or naturism:

1. Watch the Bare Oaks old podcasts of the NATURIST LIVING SHOW for advice and help socially navigating the social interactions nudist resorts or locations or beaches;

2. Look for appropriate rules and regulations at said nudist resorts or locations or beaches;

3. Use social skills knowledge to learn social skills and polite manners, and look for good manners and bad manners on your own terms, and to look for what might be common in travel to nudists resorts for people living at the nudist resorts or beachgoers at nudist beaches or the visitors to other famous nudist locations, to navigate properly the nudist conduct and socially-acceptable behavior of the local nudist culture;

4. Build confidence.

5. Forego visiting the nudist locations of all kinds until you feel you know you are ready.

And Finally,

6. And if you go even if you are nervous, just say "Just do it, let us see what happens!" and go and see how easy it might be to be in a good experience or bad experience, with the ideal attitude simply being "I gotta just do this once, regardless of if someone thinks I did not do it the right way, I do not really care what everyone thinks, I just have to let myself do this. You Only Live Once! Why not try this even if only once!"

And there are many other ways to do it.

And that is the general set of ideas and principles.

Now, regarding the original posts,

""Just do not deliberately be nervous or be a creep on purpose.""

The word phrase, "on purpose" is key.

Another way to put it "Do not do anything that tries to make you get arrested that the nudists want you to go be banished, forever!" is really what we should be saying.

Who determines the rules? It usually is some association or a nudist resort ownership for resorts, for locations and beaches it is nudist associations, for resorts, usually some private-sector organizational management or ownership, usually an LLC or small-nudist-resort-private-ownership-business owner. Sometimes a social business or a non-profit organization, sometimes an association, or sometimes a private family company for-profit business entity owns the nudist resorts/clubs/parks. It all depends on the level of management and whether they choose the business model or not-for-profit models. That is how it usually goes.

Always read the website for the rules, but always read the fine print, and when there, read the room and "read between the lines."

If it is too hard to do so, just avoid indefinitely visiting once you have a nervous experience.

And if others you know or you yourself have an extreme medical psychiatrical nervous mental health crisis or multiple crises, the NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION HOTLINE is simply the three-digit telephone number, the phone number is simply the number
988
on the telephone cellphone SIM CARD cellphone and landline phone numbers on the phone signals inside the USA.

Refrain from Use of it, except only sparingly in cases when you feel you have Extreme pain or extreme thoughts of pain.

Know your rights, know the law, and know the rules of the nudist resorts. Be careful. Watch out for scams.

The USA government can actively watch out for scams and catch them.

I am not from the USA government. I know of a few websites from simple searches in the English Language on DuckDuckGo search engine. Here is what I have found regarding USA government help to fight scams:
